Make a useful item list
Count sofas, chairs, tables, dressers, and bed pieces separately. Note heavy tops, glass, and furniture that might need to come apart.
Measure the route
Record width and height of the item, door clearance, hallway width, and tight corners. Include stairs and elevator dimensions when they matter. Measurements help the removal crew assess the job, but the on-site route still needs checking.
Decide what stays
Label pieces that remain in the home. Empty drawers and remove personal items before pickup. If an item might be donated, ask the receiving organization about its current acceptance criteria before making a plan around donation.
Ask before disassembly
Do not take apart unfamiliar hardware or heavy furniture without a safe plan. Tell the provider what may need disassembly and ask whether that work is included.
Before you make the request
- Write down the items and quantities.
- Note the full address and access path.
- Set aside anything that may need special handling.
- Ask how the quote and timing are confirmed.
